With the installation of a new extraction system, the SKZ Plastics Center in Würzburg has successfully completed the expansion of its compounding and extrusion technical center. Over the past two years, the technical center area has been significantly enlarged in parallel with ongoing business operations. At the same time, the infrastructure and the control and plant technology have been comprehensively modernized. The expansion will enable SKZ to further expand its range of services and offer the industry even more specific and comprehensive services in the future.

The plastics industry faces the challenge of making its processes more efficient, more sustainable, and at the same time higher in quality. SKZ supports companies in this endeavor with comprehensive services, including in the areas of compounding and extrusion. The aim is to develop new materials, optimize production processes, and strengthen the competitiveness of the industry.

“We see ourselves as pioneers and supporters of the industry,” explains Hatice Malatyali, group leader for compounding and extrusion at SKZ. “Our task is to help companies make their processes more efficient and sustainable while ensuring the quality of their products. With our expertise and technical equipment, we can develop solutions that can be directly transferred into industrial practice.”

Compounding and extrusion are important technologies in plastics processing. They enable the production of individual material mixtures, semi-finished products, and profiles that are precisely tailored to the requirements of the respective application. SKZ supports companies from the initial idea to implementation with practical research, modern technical facilities, and an experienced team of experts.

The SKZ’s range of services extends from process analysis and optimization to the production of sample quantities, material development, and compound manufacturing. This is complemented by comprehensive testing and measurement technology as well as simulations for process design. This enables companies not only to optimize their existing processes, but also to develop new materials and applications. For example, publicly funded projects have resulted in the development of a reactive extrusion process for the depolymerization of PET and compounds from wood fiber residues and plastic-coated paper for the production of fiber composite and finished veneer panels in collaboration with Fritz Kohl GmbH & Co. KG.
