SCHWAIG, Germany, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag will consolidate its production sites in Schwaig and Wiehe. This move will boost the company’s flexibility in the production of injection moulding machines.
The two production sites will now focus on their core competencies in order to respond to customer requirements faster and more efficiently. Over the past months, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has been analysing and optimising its core processes in order to boost production efficiency. Newly created competence centres for sales and for both production sites make customer order processing faster and more efficient. The production site in Wiehe focuses on small and medium-sized hydraulic and all-electric machines. As part of the new production unit, Wiehe will be responsible for the production of control cabinets and electric components. Medium-sized and large hydraulic and hybrid injection moulding machines will be manufactured at Schwaig. Within the new unit, Schwaig will also operate a competence centre for die cast processing and plasticisation. The focus on core competencies will speed up order processing and boost the overall flexibility of the new production unit.
Sumitomo (SHI) Demag will step up its growth strategy with a focus on the core competencies in high-speed, precision and automation engineering at the production sites as well as in its corporate workflows and in its product portfolio. These measures will concentrate on packaging, automotive, medical engineering, consumer and electronics applications.
The Managing Board with its latest member Gerd Liebig, Chief Sales Officer, who joined on 1 April 2015, plans to boost the company’s economic clout. Spearheaded by Thomas Brettnich, Schwaig will install a central Application Engineering Centre to enhance the company’s application-related customer support. In addition to the new Application Engineering Centre, new Expert Teams with specific, industry-related intelligence will work hand-in-hand with the sales department. “Our sales team will be concentrating on the
industry and its specific requirements. This company’s product development will focus on practical applications – right from the beginning“, Gerd Liebig points out.
New order processing centres will make the customer service of both production sites even better. In order to boost their efficiency, both order processing centres will be integrated into the production organisation. “Customer requirements will be moved closer to our company – directly into the heart of production. This means, that customer specifications will be implemented a lot faster and the entire company will become more customer-friendly“, says Andreas Schramm, CTO of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag.

As early as 1998, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag set up its first production site in Ningbo/China. In 2015, the Chinese subsidiary Demag Plastics Machinery (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. installed a new
facility with a 12,800 m² production floor. It is earmarked for the production of the Systec C range with clamping forces of between 500 and 10,000 kN for the Asian market.
