FTP industrial launches F28, a multi-power engine for compact agriculture equipment

13.11.2019

FPT Industrial has chosen the occasion of Agritechnica, the world’s leading trade fair for agriculture equipment and technology, which takes place in Hannover, Germany, to unveil the new F28, an engine with Diesel and Natural Gas versions designed to be small productive and environmentally-friendly

FPT F28 DieselVisitors at the stand C34 - Hall 16 can learn more about the new engine from November
10th to 16th. F28 stands out for its high performance and compactness, elements that make
it a perfect solution for specialized and small utility tractors, meeting the needs of space and
productivity-driven applications. It delivers maximum power of 55 kW at 2,300 rpm and
maximum torque of 375 Nm at 1,400 rpm. Although it has a displacement of 2.8 liters, F28
delivers a 3.4-liter performance in a 2.2 litre package. Compared to competitors, FPT Indus-
trial’s new engine offers best in class performance to size ratio.

Compliant with Stage V and Tier 4 Final emission standards, F28 takes advantage of FPT’s
ultra compact after-treatment solution, which uses a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) +
Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) for the European market, and a DOC for North America,
maintaning the same packaging for both regions.

The engine’s lean design, with integrated EGR channels and reduced block's bridge solution,
adds to its compactness and ensures easy vehicle installation. In addition, its single-side ser-
viceability and service interval of 600 hours provide simple maintenance and low running
costs.

“We believe that the small and powerful F28 can further drive agricultural development in the
years to come”, said Fabio Rigon, Vice President FPT Industrial Europe. “We will also have
a Natural Gas version of the engine to meet the demand for alternative fuels in the farming
field.”

Approach towards a circular economy

Following its strategy to offer multi-power solutions, FPT Industrial will offer a 100% Nat-
ural Gas version of F28, with the same displacement and interface as the Diesel version,
with common base components, and a 3-way catalyst as the after-treatment system.

FPT F28 NGThe F28 NG will further reduce pollutant emissions to enable even more sustainable agricul-
ture. When running on biomethane, it could reduce CO2 emissions to almost zero. The
production process of biomethane also contributes to the circular economy, not only reducing
greenhouse gas emissions, but restoring organic matter to the soil and helping local farmers
to reduce production costs.
